"Turtledoves." His voice was soft as he whispered the answer to the newest riddle that opened the Ravenclaw tower door. He rolled his eyes lightly as he stepped in, and tossed his book-sack into a corner. His chocolate colored eyes roamed the area, and then locked on to a book sitting on a counter. So, that was where he left it. He huffed under his breath, and went to obtain his missing tome. He turned and stalked out of the common room without a word to the few people within. Stephen had a hot date with the library, and some personal reading time.
It was not a long hike to get to the library from his house tower. As he expected, the library was nearly empty. Most students would not be bothered with being inside when there was no need. Stephen, however, was looking forward to reading in a corner; alone. He smiled to the Librarian, and moved through the open sitting room. His eyes dodged to the Forbidden Section, but his feet took him to the back of the long row to the left side. Stephen found a comfortable chair, and tucked in. His book was soon open before him, his eyes crawling across the page, and his long bangs dripped into his eyes. He was content.

ah, the library. what a place, what a place. lance loved it's peaceful, quiet atmosphere, the frowning faces of exhausted students, the sounds of shredded paper and the crisp cries of those in crisis. yes, what a place. lance remembered his own youth, how he hunched over his text books, beads of sweat dripping down his forehead. not the strongest student in slytherin, mr. todd needed to work for his grades, and even then they weren't anything passable. however, when it came to the dark arts, lance knew everything from how many hairs a werewolf had to the average length of a vampire's tooth. the perfect dada teacher.
mr. cornfoot, a ravenclaw, was the first student he recognized from his seventh period class. the boy was bright, but also had a knack for learning, which lance enjoyed. those who disliked the subject always were harder to teach than those interested and excited, such as the new-found harry potter. and with this rush of brand new students, it took a while for the professor to sort our which ones were worthy and which needed the firm lashing of his tongue. being a friend as well as an educator, lance plopped down in the seat next to stephen, smiling slightly while kicking his legs up onto the table, appearing quite lazy. "and how are you today, mr. cornfoot?" questioned the brunette in his odd english accent, the vowls loose and dripping with seeming illiteracy.

He had to reach the end of the sentence before he looked up to see who might be greeting him. It was a habit, as he had shown in many classes. He could not leave a sentence in the middle with the rest of the knowledge it provided just hanging there to be read later. Stephen had too curious of a mind to just allow the sentence to go out like that. He trailed across the line to find a period, and smiled as he looked up.
"Ah, hello Professor. I am well, just getting in a touch of light reading. Muggle mostly." He lifted the novel to show Professor Todd the cover. A hunting cap covered the well formed head of a man's profile with a jutting pipe coming from the shadowy mouth. 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,' the title declared in gold script. "I just got this one earlier this week, been waiting to tuck into it since Tuesday." Stephen added the last as he marked his place and rested the book on his lap.
"And you, Professor? Alright there?"

lance yawned. even though he did enjoy an ocassional nap in the library, today was not the day for such things. stephen looked quite fascinated with whatever he was doing, and it was lance's job to find out why. not to say he was prying, but lance loved knowing the whereabouts of his precious gaggle of pupils, even if it meant lowering himself and becoming one of them. out of the corner of his eye, lance noticed stephen couldn't simply lower the pen and look him in the eyes. the boy actually had to finish every word plus punctuation before he felt comfortable to talk to the defense professor. he raised an eyebrow, finding this very amusing.
"are you working on your dada homework at all, mr. cornfoot?" asked lance, his voice just touching dangerous. of course, the professor didn't care either way, but he found scaring his students just a little bit fun. cracking a smile, he attempted to slap cornfoot hard on the back in a hearty way. "i'm just playing with you," laughed lance, cracking a smile so stephen knew everything was alright.

Corny opened his mouth to reply, but then snapped it shut when he learned the professor was just teasing him. He smiled, and fiddled with his book as he caught on to the jest. Honestly, Stephen had finished his D.A.D.A. homework for the next three classes. He could only sit back and hope the unpredictable teacher would not change his syllabus in midweek. He enjoyed the class, and felt that Professor Todd was one of the most competent teachers in the school; however, he would not go around telling others that. It was too awkward to have any type of relationship with a teacher other than inside the classroom. Stephen let the thought drop and nodded with a smile.
"Good one, sir." He had actually thought that Professor Todd had been concerned that Corny had not actually done any of his assigned work for the last class. Nothing could be further from the truth. Stephen usually made top marks, if not then top five marks in each class he consumed. "I think I actually managed to nail down the last assignment while we were still in class, sir."
That was completely true.
