Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Consolidation. The joining of two thoughts in one mind as pertaining to the current cloud that set low over his brow. Often he would be able to handle his own thought process, as these ideas swirled into a mist of confusion throughout his life. He was witty, smart enough to become his thoughts and figure out those dark clouds that wished to suffocate him. This time, the clouds were filled with storms, rain, hail that dropped around him in heavy falls of dark misconception. He could not tolerate such a thing, and wished for this time of night to pass. It would go slowly, but he would have to guide his own mind through the dark torrents, and climb out on the other side of this new storm. It was not going to be easy. He already knew.
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
The wind circled the tower as he let his chocolate colored eyes move off into the distance. The idea of flying captivated him, but was only a slight distraction when compared to the thoughts flowing in his mind. His hair lifted off of his shoulders in long strains that pushed pass his face. His lids became heavy and slid shut as he tried to combine the thoughts in his mind into one steady line of reason. It was not going too well, but he knew he had to try. All the logical things in his life might well be turned on their ear and left to blow in the rising wind. He sighed, and opened his eyes. He had to pinpoint the one single thread of thinking that made everything else in his head unravel. He could only think of one thing. One person.
Stephen was never one to allow thoughts of a girl move into his logical mind and suffocate every other thought he held dear. However, this was exactly what was happening in this moment in time. He could not close his eyes and make the thoughts stop coming within the rivers of memory. He had tried this trick, and it was something that always worked in the past. He had testing to think of. He needed to figure out his own plans for the future, as bleak as it might be in these confusing times. Still, he needed to shut off his mind against visions of her and dance away into reason. He already knew it was not going to be easy; she had captivated him in no small way. He smiled against the wind.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Stephen knew he might be in trouble if he got caught out of bounds so late at night. He did not care this time. He needed a break from the stuffy Ravenclaw tower, and all the noises that such a night brought. He had escaped to the Astronomy Tower in hopes of a quiet night of contemplation. His own mind was drawing him into this vicious circle, and he saw no escape. He shut it down, and made an attempt to think of nothing at all. He would not let a memory sink into him. He would not hold on to one line of thought for more than a merest second. Instead, he faded away into a simple mediation. The wind circled around him, and stole his breath as he lifted his arms to his side. His hair floated around him like a dark cloud, and he lifted his face to the wind.
Stephen was no longer lost in thought, and oblivious to the sound of a footstep behind him. As far as he knew, he was completely alone. And, nothing could be further from the truth...
